Geo-Political Issues come to our doorstep

We all woke up Sunday morning to the news of a mass shooting in downtown Austin just 45 minutes from where I sit here and write this column. The shooter was neutralized by police in a blazing fast response time of 57 seconds. He shot into a bar from the street with both a pistol and a rifle, killing 2 and wounding 14 people.

The suspect was wearing a hooded sweatshirt with the words “Property of Allah” on the front and wearing a t-shirt underneath with an Iranian flag. I highly doubt it’s a coincidence with the action the United States is currently taking in Iran with it’s allies.

Most of the time foreign conflicts take place “over there” and rarely impact those of us here on the mainland. Our group knows that violence can find you anywhere at any time and work hard to stay ready. But, we need to be educating others when possible about the dangers of these types of actions to our own communities. They have said they are among us. I believe them! And I hope you do too and take every precaution.

All of the details haven’t yet come out but we know that the FBI is involved in the investigation. They (extremists) have said they are among us. I believe them and stay strapped 100% of the time. This type of evil can only be stopped with grim determination and some skills. Stay strapped wherever you go and can do so legally. AND, carry a med kit in your vehicle everywhere. Your trauma response kit can be the difference between life and death for someone. The response was fast this time because APD is always on 6th street every weekend. Will the next response be so quick? It’s unlikely. Seconds of medical intervention means the difference of life and death to a victim. Don’t know how to respond?
