What you can expect when attending one of our events for the first time:
We want you to have a safe and fun experience with us! In order to maintain the high safety standards we have, safety is stressed at every moment of any event. The Group Guyde is the leader and the one responsible for overall safety so if they are saying something it’s important to pay attention. These following things will help you know what to expect:
- Bring your unloaded, cased firearm. 100+ rounds of ammunition, over the ear hearing protection and safety or prescription glasses, and any snacks and beverages you need for the event.
- Upon arrival you will check in, sign a waiver, and pay the event fee.
- Our events start with an education segment followed by range time working on skills appropriate to the topic the Group Guyde has chosen.
- Please leave your unloaded firearm cased until directed by the Group Guyde. If unsure whether the firearm is loaded, just let the Group Guyde know and they will check its status. No handling of firearms while milling about at an event. No show and tell except for when guns are on the shooting line in the appropriate place. We always have to be mindful of our safe direction. Gun handling only in designated gun areas while always maintaining safe direction. NO EXCEPTIONS.
- Our events operate under a cold range designation. That means guns are unloaded and clear on the bench and in pouches while walking around the facility. Only bring cased guns to the appropriate area when the Group Guyde directs and only uncase under the supervision of the Group Guyde or a Fire Fella. No loaded guns can be placed down on the bench or in cases. Guns must be unloaded with the slide locked back or cylinder tilted out in order to bench it. It is up to the discretion of the Group Guyde (and host range policy) on whether conceal carry is allowed. If it is, conceal carriers will come to the line one at a time (after those with guns in cases), unholster, unload and show clear and bench their firearm. Conceal carriers will go ONE AT A TIME at the very end of coming to the line and coming off the line to go home.
- Please wear closed-toed shoes, a high neck shirt, and a baseball style cap with a brim. Brass flies all over during the event. These items protect you from getting a burn from hot brass.
- Please bring over the ear hearing protection (electronic is preferred so you can hear line commands) and safety glasses. Prescription glasses are fine to use. If you don’t have these items, the Group Guyde will likely have extras. Just let them know ahead of time so they are prepared to help you.
- Expect to have a big brother at the event. That person is a Fire Fella in our organization and is there to help you. They are a certified Range Safety Officer. When you go to the range a safety brief will be given every time. It’s important to pay attention during the safety brief. If you have any questions on what’s covered in that brief, ask.
- Expect to make several new friends!
